# New out-of-network billing fees

> Configure your OON billing rates in your catalog and for individual clients before the November 2 pricing change.

Thrizer's new pricing for OON claims and instant reimbursements is effective November 2nd. As mentioned, these fees will be incurred on any transaction that uses the OON Billing type. This article shows you how to configure your settings to control the fees and the experience for your clients.

## Your catalog

Your Services catalog now includes two out-of-network billing fees. Find them in **Settings → Services**, listed with your other Services:

* **OON Billing – Check or Bank** — charged when the reimbursement method is check or bank. Default \$4.00.
* **OON Billing – Instant** — charged when the reimbursement method is Instant. Default \$15.00.

These are the amounts a client pays when a charge uses **OON Billing**. You set each rate. Either rate can be any amount of \$0 or more.

The rate a client pays is yours. It is separate from the fee your practice pays Thrizer for using OON Billing. Changing a catalog rate changes the client's charge. It does not change your practice's underlying fee.

Both are non-billable to insurance. They are simple service charges added on top of the primary Service being billed, such as individual therapy.

To change a rate, open the row menu and choose **Edit**. The drawer shows the fee's name and a **Rate (\$)** field. **Save Changes** updates the catalog. The name is fixed, and there is no **Delete**.

A rate of \$0 means the client is not charged for that OON billing service and reimbursement method.

## Adding charges

From **November 2nd**, the Add Charge drawer adds the matching fee whenever the billing type is **OON Billing**.

1. Choose the client and clinician, if you bill for a teammate.
2. Choose the session Service, as you do today. The two billing fees are not in that list.
3. Set the billing type to **OON Billing**. The confirmation lists the session and the fee that matches the reimbursement method:
   * Check or bank → **OON Billing – Check or Bank**
   * Instant → **OON Billing – Instant**
4. The amount is that client's rate: the customized rate when one is set, otherwise the catalog rate.

The fee cannot be edited or removed on that charge. Under the amount it says "Set in this client's services or your catalog." Change the rate there before charging. A \$0 rate still appears on the charge as \$0.00.

Switching between check or bank and Instant swaps in the other fee and its rate. Switching the billing type away from **OON Billing** removes the fee. Self-pay charges — including a no-show, a miscellaneous charge, and a non-billable Service — do not include it. Instant is available only when an insurance estimate can be calculated; otherwise the charge uses check or bank and that fee.

The confirmation shows two breakdowns:

* **Client charge breakdown** — the session, the billing fee, and **Client Charged** (what the client pays).
* **Clinician breakdown** — the fees your practice pays Thrizer, and **Net Proceeds**.

Practice administrators who select a different clinician load **that** clinician's catalog rate. A client's customized rate applies only when that clinician already works with the client.

## Per-client terms

You can manage the OON fees and vary them by client, just like any other Service in your catalog.

On the client's **Overview** tab, open **Manage services**. Both fees are listed with that client's other Services.

**Customize terms** sets a rate for that client only. The drawer is titled with the fee name and **client terms**, and the only field is **Rate (\$)**. The catalog rate is shown underneath. **Save Changes** marks the row **Customized** when the rate differs from the catalog.

If a fee is not customized, the catalog rate is used when charging that client.

These fees cannot be hidden, and they cannot be the **Primary** Service. To waive one for a single client, set that client's rate to \$0.

A custom rate belongs to that clinician and that client. If the client later works with another clinician on the team, the new clinician's rate applies on the next charge.

## Practices and teams

Practice administrators and team owners can open a teammate's catalog from the **My Team** page and edit either rate. On that catalog, the note names the teammate's clients.

Staff members can set a client's rate from **Manage services**. They do not have access to a teammate's catalog.

Before changing a client’s rate, let them know the new amount and when it takes effect. See [sample client messages](https://docs.thrizer.com/help/getting-started/how-to-explain-thrizer-to-clients.md).
