# BCBS of Kansas: out-of-network registration

> Confirm the first-time nonparticipating registration process with BCBS of Kansas and verify your practice and clinician records.

## Before you start

[BCBS of Kansas serves Kansas except Johnson and Wyandotte counties](https://www.bcbsks.com/providers/contact). For those two counties, use the separate [Blue KC guide](/help/claims/bcbs-bluekc-provider-registration).

Use the practice or claim-service location used for billing, not your client's address or Home Plan on their card. First [identify your required Local / Host Blue Plan](/help/claims/blue-plan-registration-guides). Confirm unclear telehealth or multiple-location situations with the payer.

## Ask for the nonparticipating process

BCBS of Kansas's public network-enrollment and credentialing materials do not establish the complete first-time out-of-network provider-record process. Start with its [provider contacts](https://www.bcbsks.com/providers/contact), using **Provider Inquiries, 800-432-3990**, to reach the appropriate team.

Explain: "We need a nonparticipating practice record for out-of-network claims under our tax ID and service location. Does a record already exist? If not, how do we create it, enroll each individual clinician if needed, and associate every rendering NPI with our practice?"

Ask for the applicable form or portal, documents, secure submission method, status-check instructions, and processing timeframe. Joining a network, credentialing for network participation, portal access, and electronic payment or transaction setup do not establish active out-of-network registration.

## Complete the confirmed request

Have the practice's legal name, EIN/TIN, applicable billing/group NPI, service locations, and each clinician's individual rendering NPI and license details ready. Match the information in Thrizer. Group clinicians may need individual enrollment and affiliation with the practice; they do not need to create separate practices.

Follow the payer-confirmed new-record, addition, or update route. Ask about unclear fields instead of guessing. Retain the payer's instructions and any reference number, then have the authorized person review and submit the required material through the confirmed secure channel. The contact page warns that ordinary email is not secure; do not send private registration material by unverified email. Keep a copy and submission receipt.

## Confirm activation and notify Thrizer

* **Adding a clinician to an existing practice:** Confirm their individual record if required and their affiliation with that practice; avoid a duplicate practice application.
* **Submitted and waiting:** [Follow the pending-registration guidance](/help/claims/provider-registration#registration-pending) using your reference. Follow payer-specific timing and do not submit a duplicate unless instructed.
* **Ready to finish:** Ask the payer to confirm that the practice and every required clinician affiliation are active, including the effective date and any remaining steps. A receipt or portal account is not approval.
* **Confirmed active:** [Send the approval confirmation and related documents to Thrizer Support](/help/claims/provider-registration#registration-confirmed-next-steps). Support identifies affected claims and reviews eligible resubmissions.

For BCBS claims through Thrizer, reimbursement goes to the client. If the process appears to require practice payment or assignment of the client's reimbursement, ask how to register for **member reimbursement** before continuing. Registration does not guarantee clinician recognition, claim approval, or reimbursement.
