# Register with BlueCross South Carolina out of network

> Follow the non-participating provider registration steps for BlueCross South Carolina and confirm your practice and clinician records.

## Before you start

Use this guide when BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is a required registration plan for your practice or claim-service location. Its My Provider Enrollment Portal (MyPEP) has different routes for in-state and out-of-state records. Behavioral-health practices may need the payer to clarify the route before proceeding.

If registration is incomplete, claims can be delayed. Not sure which plan applies? First [identify your required Local / Host Plan](/help/claims/bcbs-reimbursement-and-registration#find-and-register-with-your-local-/-host-plan). Registration is separate from joining a network.

## Confirm the right application

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check the location and provider type">
    Open the [official enrollment checklists](https://www.southcarolinablues.com/en/home/providers/provider-enrollment/provider-enrollment-checklists--videos-and-more.html). Under **Other Checklists**, choose **In State, Out-of-Network** or **Out-of-State, Out-of-Network** according to the actual service location.

    Use an out-of-state application only when South Carolina's plan has been identified as required. A client's South Carolina insurance card alone does not establish that requirement.
  </Step>

  <Step title="For behavioral health, resolve any network-only instructions">
    The [MyPEP manual](https://www.southcarolinablues.com/content/dam/commercial-web-public/sc/blues/en/providers/pdfs/manuals-and-guides/MyPEP%20Manual_01-09-2026.pdf) says behavioral-health specialties can lead to a separate behavioral-health path. If it asks you to join the network or does not clearly offer non-participating registration, call **800-868-2510** and ask for **Provider Enrollment**.

    Ask: “Our practice wants to remain out of network. Which application registers our practice and links our clinicians for our service location? Does BlueCross or the behavioral-health administrator handle these records?”

    Do not select a physician specialty or sign a network agreement to bypass that question. Thrizer cannot confirm whether BCBS South Carolina/CBA recognizes an associate clinician.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Prepare the applicable documents">
    * **In-state group:** the checklist requests the group application, IRS TIN verification, EFT enrollment, and the **Out of Network** choice.
    * **In-state individual:** the checklist's physician section lists the Health Professional Application and Authorization to Bill for each individual linked to the practice. Ask the payer what applies to a behavioral-health clinician.
    * **Out-of-state, out-of-network:** the checklist requests an NPI notification form and W-9.

    These payer enrollment requirements do not change Thrizer's claim structure or BCBS reimbursement options.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open MyPEP and follow the confirmed route">
    Open [Provider Enrollment](https://www.southcarolinablues.com/en/home/providers/provider-enrollment.html) and select **Get Enrolled**. Sign in or set up access if needed, then complete the payer-confirmed application with accurate practice, clinician, location, and participation information.

    Your practice coordinates the records and affiliations. Keep the case information and confirm active registration; creating a portal account alone is not enough.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## If you already have a record

Ask Provider Enrollment which maintenance or clinician-affiliation request applies. The portal's **Request to Add a Practitioner** is distinct from establishing a new practice. Confirm the existing record and the correct request before submitting.

## What happens next

Once each required plan confirms registration and the required clinician associations are active, [notify Thrizer support and review what happens next](/help/claims/bcbs-reimbursement-and-registration#registration-confirmed-next-steps).

The payer controls registration and claim decisions. Registration does not guarantee reimbursement or recognition of every clinician category. For associate, pre-licensed, or supervised clinicians, ask the payer about recognition and review [Thrizer's supported claim structure](/help/claims/bcbs-reimbursement-and-registration#associate-pre-licensed-or-supervised-clinicians).
