# Blue Cross of Vermont: out-of-network registration

> Find the next step for nonparticipating practice registration with Blue Cross of Vermont and confirm when your record is active.

## Start here

For clinicians and practice administrators in **Vermont**. First [confirm the Blue Plan for your practice or claim-service location](/help/claims/blue-plan-registration-guides). Use the location used for billing, not your client’s home plan.

**If you need a new practice record, confirm the first-time registration process with the payer.** The public resources below do not establish a complete application for every out-of-network practice.

## Where are you in the process?

* **Starting for the first time or unsure?** Check with the payer whether your practice already has a record under the same tax ID and service location, then follow the steps below for the record you need.
* **Adding a clinician to an existing practice?** Ask the payer how to add the clinician, complete any required individual enrollment, and link them to the existing practice. Do not create a new practice just to add a clinician.
* **Already submitted, waiting for approval?** [Check your pending registration](/help/claims/provider-registration#registration-pending) using the submission reference. Do not send a duplicate application unless the payer asks you to.
* **Practice and required clinician affiliations confirmed active?** [Notify Thrizer Support](/help/claims/provider-registration#registration-confirmed-next-steps).

## Before you start

Have your practice’s legal name, tax ID (EIN/TIN), service address, and each clinician’s rendering NPI and license information ready. Use details that match Thrizer. The practice coordinates registration; group clinicians do not need to create separate practices. The payer may require individual enrollment and group affiliations.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Contact the payer">
    Contact Provider Relations at **888-449-0443, option 1**, using [Vermont’s provider policies and contacts](https://www.bluecrossvt.org/providers/provider-policies). Ask whether the current nonparticipating route for your practice uses the [Group Practice Enrollment and Change Form](https://www.bluecrossvt.org/documents/group-practice-enrollment-and-change-form).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the route for your practice">
    The form includes **Add New Group Practice** and **I Do Not Intend to Contract**. Ask Vermont to confirm the form is still accepted, which sections and signatures apply to an out-of-network practice, and how each practitioner is enrolled or affiliated. Its new-practice instructions request a W-9 or SS-4; confirm the current checklist and submission destination.

    The available form is dated June 2014 and includes contract-related signature language. Do not sign a network commitment just to create an out-of-network record. Confirm the applicable sections with Vermont before submitting, including how to preserve payment to the member.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete and submit the confirmed request">
    Once the payer confirms the right new-record, addition, or update process, complete and submit the application or request through that channel with the documents it requires for your practice. Ask the payer about unclear fields or attestations before submitting; do not guess.

    Keep a copy, the submission confirmation, and any case number. Then [follow the pending-registration guidance](/help/claims/provider-registration#registration-pending) until the payer confirms activation. A receipt does not mean your record is active.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm activation, then notify Thrizer">
    Ask the payer to confirm that the practice record and all required clinician affiliations are active. Keep the approval confirmation and related documents; a submission receipt or portal login does not establish activation.

    [Send the confirmation to Thrizer Support and review the next steps](/help/claims/provider-registration#registration-confirmed-next-steps). Support identifies affected claims and reviews which are eligible for resubmission. Do not duplicate pending claims solely because registration became active.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  For BCBS claims through Thrizer, any reimbursement goes to the client. If an application appears to require payment to your practice or assignment of the client’s reimbursement, ask the payer how to register for **member reimbursement** before continuing. Registration does not guarantee claim approval or reimbursement.
</Warning>

## Need help with the next step?

If the payer has not confirmed activation, follow its status-check instructions. [See what to do while registration is pending](/help/claims/provider-registration#registration-pending). Thrizer does not complete or track registration for your practice.
