# How do I add a new provider?

> Disambiguate what a client, clinician, or practice administrator means when they say "add a new provider" in Thrizer, and find the right path.

## Overview

"Add a new provider" is ambiguous in Thrizer. Depending on who is asking, it usually means one of three different things:

* **Add a clinician or team member to a practice** (practice-admin action).
* **Update the insurance provider or payer on a client's insurance** (client action).
* **Connect a client to a therapist in Thrizer** (invitation-based).

Use this article to send the question to the right path.

## Are you a practice administrator adding a clinician or team member?

Use **Clinician Portal → Team → Add Team Member** to invite a new clinician or staff member to your practice.

See [Team members](/help/clinician/team-members) for the invitation flow, role definitions, and how team members interact with the Thrizer Widget.

## Are you a client updating your insurance provider or payer?

Go to **Client Portal → Settings → Insurance plan** to add, edit, or replace your insurance information (including the insurance company / payer).

See [Linking or editing insurance](/help/client/link-insurance).

## Are you a client trying to add or connect to a new therapist?

In Thrizer, clinician–client connections are invitation-based. Clients generally do not add clinicians from their own portal. Instead:

1. Ask the clinician to send you a Thrizer invitation (or a Thrizer Widget / benefit check link from their practice).
2. When the clinician invites you, a pending connection appears under **Client Portal → Clinicians**.
3. Select **Accept** on that row to connect. See [Clinician connections](/help/client/clinician-connections).

You can also submit an out-of-network claim through Thrizer for a provider who is **not** a Thrizer clinician by uploading a superbill from **Client Portal → Claims → Upload Superbill**. Client-side superbill upload is available until August 9, 2026. **Add Claim** (manual claim entry) has been removed from the client portal. See [Claims and superbill uploads](/help/client/claims-and-superbills).

## If you're still not sure

If the term "provider" is not clear in context, ask which of the three scenarios above applies before selecting a path. If it's still unclear, contact [help@thrizer.com](mailto:help@thrizer.com) with a short description of what you're trying to do.
