Bill claims under your practice instead of the rendering clinician

Thrizer can now set a payer to submit claims with your practice as the billing provider (Qualifier 85), instead of the individual clinician who saw the client. Once this is enabled for a payer, every claim to that payer uses your practice details — practice name, group NPI, and Tax ID — as the billing entity. Who this affects: practices whose insurers require claims to be billed under the group rather than the individual clinician. If none of your payers require this, nothing changes. Why it matters: some payers only recognize the group as the billing entity, or route payment to the practice rather than the clinician. Switching a payer to bill under the practice sends claims with the identity the payer expects, without a workaround. What to do: if a payer you work with requires claims to be billed under your practice, contact Thrizer support and we’ll enable this on that payer for your account. Review your practice name, Tax ID, and group NPI first — see Settings and profile.

Claims still go out when your practice has no group NPI

If a payer is set to bill under the practice but your practice has no group NPI on file, Thrizer now falls back to the rendering clinician’s Individual NPI as the billing NPI on the claim. The rest of the billing identity (practice name, Tax ID) still comes from your practice. This matches how many small practices bill when they don’t have a Type-2 group NPI. Who this affects: practices that bill under the practice on at least one payer and haven’t added a group NPI in Practice Settings. Why it matters: claims aren’t held up waiting for a group NPI. The billing NPI on the claim may differ from what’s stored in Practice Settings until you add a group NPI. What to do: if your practice has a Type-2 group NPI, add it in Practice Settings so it’s used as the billing NPI — see Settings and profile. If your practice doesn’t have a group NPI, no action is needed — the fallback is automatic. For more on how claims are assembled, see How to submit a claim.
