Before you start

For BCBS claims through Thrizer, register with each Blue Plan required for your practice or claim-service location. Use the location used for billing, not the client’s home address or the name on the client’s insurance card. If the required plan is unclear, including for telehealth, confirm it with BlueCard provider services. Have your practice EIN/TIN, each clinician’s individual rendering NPI, and the practice or claim-service address ready. Make sure the details you give the plan match the information in Thrizer.

Check where Premera applies

Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska serves Alaska. Premera Blue Cross serves Washington except Clark County. Some Washington locations also have a Regence Blue Plan; registration with Premera does not complete a separate Regence requirement. Use the Washington Blue Plan chooser and follow both guides if it lists two companies for your county.

Confirm the first-time process

Premera publishes provider update forms for Alaska and Washington. Those forms describe updates to practice information and provider directory records. They do not establish that sending a form alone creates a first-time out-of-network practice record. If you’re establishing your practice’s first record with Premera, use its Alaska provider contacts or Washington provider contacts to ask how to establish a nonparticipating provider record for claims processing, which practice locations and clinicians must be included, and whether the update form is needed. This is different from joining a network. If Premera directs you to an update form for an existing record, use the version for your location and follow its document and submission instructions. An Availity account, claims payer selection, or EFT/ERA enrollment does not itself confirm provider registration.

Check that registration is active

Ask Premera to confirm that your practice record and required clinician affiliations are active. A form submission or receipt alone is not approval. Keep the confirmation and any case number, then notify Thrizer and review what happens next. Registration does not guarantee claim approval or reimbursement.
