Before you start
Use the practice or claim-service location used for billing, not the client’s address or Home Plan on their insurance card. First identify your required Local / Host Blue Plan. Blue KC’s September 2026 provider guide, page 8, lists these counties:- Kansas: Johnson and Wyandotte. For other Kansas counties, use the BCBS of Kansas guide.
- Missouri: Andrew, Atchison, Bates, Benton, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Henry, Holt, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Pettis, Platte, Ray, St. Clair, Saline, Vernon, and Worth. Outside that area, check the Anthem guide.
Start with the record you need
- First registration or unsure whether a record exists: Ask Blue KC whether a nonparticipating practice record already exists under your tax ID and service location, then confirm the new-record process below.
- Adding a clinician: Ask how to enroll the individual if needed and associate their rendering NPI with the existing practice. Do not create another practice just to add a clinician.
- Already submitted: Check the pending registration with your submission reference. Do not send a duplicate unless Blue KC asks you to.
- Practice and required clinician affiliations active: Notify Thrizer Support.
Confirm and complete the payer request
1
Ask for nonparticipating registration
Use Blue KC’s provider contacts or the Provider Hotline, 816-395-3929. Explain: “We need a nonparticipating practice record for out-of-network claims under our tax ID and service location. How do we establish the record and associate every rendering clinician?”Ask whether its Provider Out of Network Form applies to your provider type and whether separate individual records, a group record, or additional affiliation steps are required. For behavioral health, the contact page lists Lucet, 816-237-2354; confirm whether Blue KC, Lucet, or both must handle your records.
2
Use the payer-confirmed form and identity information
Blue KC’s Forms page lists Provider Out of Network Form under Provider Services. The published form has individual practitioner and group sections and requests a current IRS W-9 and state-license copy. Its practitioner NPI is the individual clinician’s NPI; its group NPI field applies when billed on the claim.Have the practice’s legal name, tax ID, applicable billing/group NPI, service locations, and each clinician’s rendering NPI and license information ready. Make these details match Thrizer. Ask how to complete the group section for a solo practice, how to include every clinician, and what effective date to enter. Do not guess fields or replace a rendering NPI with the group NPI.
3
Review and submit through the confirmed route
Confirm the current submission destination and method, including whether the form’s printed fax instructions apply to your practice. Retain the payer’s advice and any reference number before sending sensitive material. Complete only the confirmed requirements, have the authorized person review them, then submit through the confirmed route. Keep a copy and submission receipt. The form says providers are loaded as nonparticipating until credentialed and contracted. Joining a network is a separate process; do not sign a network agreement merely to complete out-of-network registration.
4
Confirm activation of the practice and every clinician
Use your reference to ask the payer to confirm that the practice record and every required rendering-clinician affiliation are active. Ask for the effective date, any remaining steps, and its status-check timing. A form receipt does not establish activation. While waiting, follow the pending-registration guidance. Once all required records are active, send the approval confirmation and related documents to Thrizer Support.
